It’s been 4 years since our homegirl Lanie Alabanza-Barcena of HLZBLZ initially shared her hustle with us in our “Cool People With Cool Jobs” video series. Since then, Lanie has done even more amazing work and has recently gotten the attention of NBC Asian America for some deserved recognition.
“Self-Starters” is a five-episode series which explores the stories of entrepreneurs whose unique stories include one common thread: the pursuit of the American dream. Episode 4 features Lanie as she discusses her background growing up in San Diego, CA, her love for art, and her story of meeting Jay-Z which eventually led to the launch of HLZBLZ.
Recently, Lanie celebrated the 10 year anniversary of HLZBLZ. She mentions to NBC Asian America, “There are so many reasons why I started HLZBLZ, one of them being because I could never find anything that I liked when I went shopping. HLZBLZ is not only a women’s streetwear brand, it’s a lifestyle. It’s about like-minded women who are independent, strong, and not afraid to express themselves verbally or through their clothes.”
Here at Behind The Hustle, we’re super excited to be a part of Lanie’s journey as she continues to expand her brand and inspire young creatives to pursue their dreams through continuous belief, hard-work, passion, and the support of others.
