Mobile Hustler: Hidden Grounds

[portfolio_slideshow id=8219]

Hidden Grounds is far from your traditional coffee shop. The owners, Anand Patel and Spoorthi Kumar are two friends who had an idea and turned it into a reality. Hidden Grounds opened for business in July 2013 and they are quickly becoming a go-to destination for those who are looking to experience something cool, new, and refreshing.

Hidden Grounds is located in the heart of New Brunswick, NJ; which is also home to Johnson & Johnson and Rutgers University. The overall aesthetic is very clean and the decor is handcrafted, recycled, and restored with an atmosphere that is  warm and inviting. Everything in the shop from the custom made bookshelves to a statue of Ganesh Bhagwan has a meaning, story and purpose.

For those mobile hustlers who are looking to drop in and catch up on some work, there are a variety of options available to suit your style. Inside are both high chair bar-style seating as well as group seating on custom-made picnic tables. There is also Wi-Fi and enough outlets to accommodate all patrons for their mobile needs. Whether you are interested in chatting while working or staying to yourself with a pair of ear-buds on, Hidden Grounds offers you the flexibility to do so. When the weather is nice, there is also additional seating available outside.

The menu at Hidden Grounds includes coffee, bagels, fresh juice, pastries, sandwiches, and tea. One of the more popular offerings on their menu is the “Masala Chai” which originates from India. Another popular item is their “Body Cleanse.” When we spoke with one of the owners, Anand Patel, he shared with us that much of what you see in their shop is an extension of their Indian culture and heritage.

In addition to serving the communities appetite for great coffee, food, juice, and tea, Hidden Grounds is building a positive reputation for it’s intimate live events, such as open-mic and stand-up comedy nights. When we asked Anand what he might like to host at Hidden Grounds in the near future, he told us that he would really love to host a TED Talk. We are looking forward to seeing his vision come true! Anand was also nice enough to leave us with some advice to share with our readers who would someday like to open their own business. His words, “never give up on a great idea and follow your intuition.”

If you are ever in town and would like to check out Hidden Grounds, please remember to tell them that your friends at BTH sent you…enjoy!
